Campus Construction - Power Outage Planned Dec. 21 impacting North Colleges

The connection to permanent power requires a 16-hour electrical outage, beginning at 6 am and lasting until 10 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

On Wednesday, December 21, the Ralph S. O'Connor Building for Engineering and Science will be connected to permanent building power. The connection to permanent power requires a 16-hour electrical outage, beginning at 6 am and lasting until 10 pm that day. This outage will impact all north campus residential colleges, Magister houses, the Student Health Center, and surrounding exterior lighting.

Also taking place on Wednesday, December 21, the rooftop air conditioning units will be replaced at both Duncan and McMurtry colleges. Due to the units' size and placement on the roof, the installation requires a helicopter lift. The lift is scheduled to last nine hours and will take place from 8 am until 5 pm on December 21. For safety measures, during this time, the areas around Duncan, McMurtry, the West Servery, both college commons, and the Magister Houses should not be occupied. If traveling through those areas, you must use an alternate route. Please refer to the map below, which indicates which areas will be affected by this scheduled work.

Please note that the helicopter lift is contingent upon the weather. Friday, December 23, is an alternate date for the helicopter lift if we cannot proceed. A campus notification will be sent out if an alternative date is necessary. The power outage will occur on December 21, regardless of weather conditions.

Please get in touch with Angie Chen (713-348-6387 or ac103@rice.edu) if you have specific questions about this scheduled activity.
