Dear colleagues,
We are emailing to alert the campus of upcoming campus construction activities, which may impact vehicular and pedestrian traffic around campus:
- The John and Anne Grove will be closed for construction from Wednesday, June 28, until Friday, July 28. Fencing will be installed for the duration of construction. Pedestrian traffic must use alternate paths provided by the South Colleges. A plan outlining the anticipated fencing in the Grove is included below.
- The O’Connor Building for Engineering and Science is near completion. While labs and offices will begin moving in from July through August, the building is open only to authorized occupants at this time. The building will welcome the Rice community in September. Road repair around the building is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 29. The lot between the North Plant and the O’Connor Building will be closed from June 29 through June 30. Entrance 23 will be closed from Friday, July 7 through Sunday, July 9 and again from Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16. A map of the area impacted is included below.
For questions about this work or the building, contact Brad Thacker, Director of Operations for the O’Connor Building, at bwt1@rice.edu. - The sky bridge connection from Anderson Hall to the new Cannady Hall wing is scheduled to take place the week of July 3. A large boom truck will be brought to the site through the Academic Quad to facilitate this work. This work will begin on Wednesday, July 5, at 6:30 am and will be complete by 3:00 pm. The truck will drive onto the quad from Cambridge Street and remain on the existing sidewalks until in position near Anderson Hall. The truck will be escorted by ground guides and spotters for pedestrian safety and exit by the same pathway. Pedestrian traffic may be impacted in these areas. A map of the affected areas is included below.
Please contact Facilities Engineering and Planning with questions about these planned activities at 713-348-2485 or FSC@rice.edu.
